The beginning of ROO
What if we told you, that ROO started by accident? Because, well, it technically did. But as we all know, accidents happen for a reason. As Deepak Chopra once said “There are no accidents… There is only some purpose that we haven’t yet understood.”. And this was truly the case for ROO.
Our story started very unexpectedly during vacation, away from busy city life in a small town back at home. Ruta, the very first one of ROO brand, was having a cup of coffee with her mum Dalia (another face behind ROO) when the problem came up that needed a solution. A solution that ended up setting ROO Handmade Living in motion.
Back then Ruta was still working on her house and was struggling to find the right carpet, so when she jokingly said “I just might need to make one myself” a light-bulb lit up in Dalia’s head. She never ever lets an idea go to waste, so they both decided there and then to act on it and on that very day they got their first material for a carpet: some yarn and a crochet hook.
It was rather unbelievable that Ruta was working on her first carpet, just moments after the idea actually came up. Crocheting was actually first craft that Ruta has learned from her mum at the age of 5 and was enjoying it a lot back then. Upon finishing the first carpet, she fell in love with the process and the product and knew this might be a beginning of something bigger.
So just like that, a round handmade carpet was in Ruta’s living room. Shortly after that her daughter had her own too and after finishing that one a third project came in a dream – the carpet named “Samana” (moss in Lithuanian) – a very special one too. It’s meant to represent a forest, but most of all – Ruta had a special connection to it since it was a reminder of her nature-bound sister Kamille (the third member of ROO), so she send the carpet to her as a gift which then ended up being the last missing piece. Kamille, who’s constantly turning ideas into projects immediately started asking questions: “How is it made? How long does it take? Are there more? Are you thinking of selling it?”
“Samana” sparked the dream to make these carpets available for everyone who’s interested in handmade, unique and one-of-a-kind goods for their homes. So the two sisters and their mum started talking, and that’s how it all initiated ROO Handmade Living.
